Alpha Apple, created October 8, 2005, was my very first website ever!
This is how it began.....
I taught preschool for nine years before going back to get my degree in elementary education. When I went back to college as a non-traditional student, a computer was needed to write papers for classes so we purchased our first home computer. Our kids were in school then, so we knew they would need a computer as well. Shortly after that, we got the internet. I didn't grow up with computers in school or the home, so I was terrified at first that I might break something. lol However, it didn't take me long to catch on, and now it is a huge part of my day! I have spent countless hours surfing the net trying to find fresh new ideas, tried and true activities, worksheets, etc. that would work in my classroom. Keeping teaching fresh and finding meaningful learning activities to keep my students engaged is important to me as a teacher. While in school, I had so many ideas of lessons, activities, my future classroom, etc. that I use to keep a notebook of these things. When I would think of something or find something worthwhile, I would jot it down in my notebook. While I still love to surf and find new ideas, I have also decided to create and offer things that I have made {some of which were in "that" notebook from so many years ago} here at Alpha Apple. So now, not only do I have access to them, but others can benefit from them as well.
While Alpha Apple was created with the K-3 classroom teacher in mind, it is not limited to just that. Many things offered here can be adapted for younger and older learners. Also, those that homeschool may find this a worthwhile resource as well!
One other thing I must add is this.....I always tell my students that we are never too old to learn something new! I have always believed that and it proved to be true over and over throughout my journey with Alpha Apple. I taught myself html and how to create a website. A love and respect for colorful graphics was found along the way, and a spark was lit which has evolved into a huge passion and talent for creating my own graphics! A new site was born, Whimsical Beginnings, where I share my pixel creations and passion with others!
I hope that you enjoy your time here at Alpha Apple. If you ever have a question or comment, I 'd love to hear from you. Some past emails have gotten lost with my "free" email addresses, but hopefully now, they will reach me when you send them! My UPDATES group is a great way to keep informed of happenings at Alpha Apple. Please join today! I LOVE hearing from others that have a passion for educating our children...no matter where you live...so email me anytime!
Blessings and Happy Teaching,
Rebecca
